Genre bending-blending singer/songwriter/guitarist Cyd Smith is hard to pin down. With years of performing in the Nortwest in bands covering everything from bluegrass to swing to rock 'n roll, she covers a remarkable breadth of stylistic ground, Her deft guitar playing interweaves seamlessly with her soulful, sensuous vocals. She can deliver a self-penned song with depth and charm or give new meaning to a vintage swing standard. Or perhaps she'll get your feet tapping to a ripping guitar arrangement of an old piano rag or heat up the room with a classic blues ballad.
With songs full of wry wit and tenderhearted longing, Greg Scott accompanies his distinctive baritone voice with skillful guitar in a variety of styles. Tonight Greg brings some of his classic material ("Moonlight Ain't No Use To Me", "Work For The County") and some new ones like "The Worms and the Germs".
In the days when singer-songwriters ruled the NW Folklife Festival, Greg Scott was one that audiences made sure to seek out. Of late, Greg has been working a bit under the radar, with a composing group consisting of crackerjack musicians Julian Smedley, Kim Scanlon, Ben Smith, and Libby Torrance. “The Palace Thieves“ will be releasing an album in early 2025.
Julian Smedley’s exquisite violin and tasty solos round out the evening's musical offerings. Julian has had a career as a violinist and vocalist in England, the Bay Area and now the Northwest. He has played and recorded with many bands and currently works as a record producer, arranger session musician and performer. Recent projects include ‘Les Cygnes’- a 13 song original recording co-written with The Palace Thieves (band mate Greg Scott features prominently)!
"Great writing"-Laurie Lewis (west coast bluegrass titan)
